This section gives the definitions of the terminology used in this User Guide.

| Hardware | The physical part of the embedded computing device |
| Platform | The hardware |
| Vendor | The makers of the embedded device, or Original Equipment Manufacturers OEM |
| Architecture | The processor core's architecture. E.g. ARM, PPC. MicroBlaze |
